I love historical fiction, and this book is a perfect example of why. Author Wayne Clark has delivered a masterfully written novel with That Woman: Beating the odds in Colonial New York. Filled with thrillingly accurate historical details and context, and written with an expert voice and style, That Woman offers us an insightful and disturbing glimpse into the lives of the people and time of pre-revolutionary New York. Sarah is a fierce protagonist, a woman with a strong mind and heart, doing what she must to survive and create a life of her own. She is the traditionally depicted soft hearted female that many of us are used to reading about in historical fiction. She is definitely a woman to be reckoned with, and her story is told with a more accurate depiction of circumstances than most authors would portray. Life was hard in that time period, especially for women, and this book us that, and what many women had to endure to survive.

Wayne is a Montreal based writer, editor and translator.
