Wandering Mind’s review

He & She by Wayne Clark is an interesting depiction of a man’s aspirations, fantasies and addictions during the different phases of his life.

Middle-aged Kit Cayman is in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend Alana but yearns for different experiences. Caught in a rut of sexual frustration and disconnect with the women he meets, Kit believes he is not truly living the life he was meant to.

One day he stumbles upon the website for a dominatrix who leads him on a journey of self-exploration. As Kit allows his sexual fantasies to take over, he feels fulfilled and indulges in his deepest sexual desires.

His life takes a positive turn – he stops drinking and loses weight – until he gets obsessed with the dominatrix and expects more than she is willing to give. Bit by bit Kit’s life unravels – his work suffers; he takes up drinking again and faces health issues.

The story, though a bit shocking in parts, is quite moving and takes a long hard look at what happens in Kit’s life when things don’t quite work out the way he intended. The eroticism is handled well and doesn’t distract from the main narrative.
